This Georgetown, Texas engagement session celebrated Taylor and Jazz, a couple who met nearly seven years ago while playing basketball at Southwestern University. Their session included a recreation of the photo that originally revealed to their teammates that they were officially together.
Taylor & Jazz’s George Town Engagement Session
Engagement sessions are usually the first time I am meeting my couples in person. This specific day we were chasing a rain cloud, so I started really quickly with the photo direction. I live in San Antonio, and Taylor and Jazz live in Dallas, so a last minute rain reschedule would be SUPER sad. Even with the quick start, all 3 of us got along super well, chatting about tattoos, jobs, working remove, date activities, etc. honestly, a little bit of everything. It was great! Even with the dark clouds looming, there were only a few droplets that fell and lighting was perfect!
About midway through the session, I overheard Jazz make a comment to Taylor about how she didn’t want some of her features exaggerated. I jumped in just to make sure I knew what we should embrace versus pose differently. This led to a little conversation about some inspo images they had seen and wanted to recreate. This moment gave me a little more in sight on the kind of poses to use to make both Jazz & Taylor feel confident, but also have photos that they really loved of themselves. With Queer couples, I really try to make sure I am sharing prompts that feel natural to their relationship dynamic. No matter the couple, each person deserves photos they love of themselves and photos that have them as the main character.
At the very end of their session, I learned about the accident photo that revealed their relationship. Jazz had posted a photo holding Taylor’s hand, with Taylor’s snowflake tattoo visible. That little detail was how their team found out that they were officially together. Naturally, we had to recreate it.

Georgetown has plenty of options for couples photography, from historic downtown areas to parks, university locations, and more personal locations that have meaning to the couple. For Jazz & Taylor’s Engagement Shoot we choose to keep to the college since this is where they met.
Do we have to know how to pose for couples photos?
Absolutely not. Most couples tell me they aren’t good at taking photos! My goal is to give you enough direction to feel comfortable while still leaving room for genuine laughs, movement, and moments together. All my wedding packages include an engagement session to make sure that the first time you’re in front of a professional camera isn’t on your wedding day
