Choosing your senior outfits doesn’t have to be stressful, I promise! The biggest secret? If you feel good, you’ll look good. This Senior Outfit Guide will help you pick outfits (and a few extra details) that feel like you and stand out in your photos.
First things first, If you’re uncomfortable, it will show. Bring outfits you actually love to wear. Whether that’s your favorite jeans and sneakers, a flowy dress, or that top you always reach for because you love it that much! When you feel like you, your photos will feel that way too. Clothes that are too tight or worn just because it’s trendy, won’t feel quite right (to you) and that can show through your facial expressions and body language.
Neutrals and earth tones always photograph beautifully! Think soft greens, tans, creams, or light blues. These colors keep the focus on you and look amazing with my bright, true-to-color editing style. If you love color (same!), lean into pastels or pick one outfit with a bold hue that really pops. Not sure how to add color? Try a fun accessory or statement piece! We are in Texas, so cute boots or cowboy hat is always a good go to!
Do you have a letterman, your cap & gown, college acceptance letters, or a jersey? I’m all about it! Your school’s (or future school’s) jersey can be a perfect outfit for your senior photos. If you can decorate your cap, I also suggest doing that before your senior photos! Want to include your pet? YES, PLEASE. Friends or your significant other? Absolutely! Just remember: this session is all about you. 99% of the time is focused on you, but we can totally sneak in a few shots with your people.
I love a colorful senior outfit, but neons can be tricky to photograph and edit. They tend to reflect onto your skin and can give you weird hues. If you love bright colors, stick with pastels or add your pop of color with accessories. Try to avoid tiny prints or super busy patterns that distract from your face. !
Most seniors bring about three outfits. Here’s my quick guide:
✔️ One nice or professional look (great for yearbooks & announcements)
✔️ One casual look (what you’d wear to hang out with friends)
✔️ One unique look — something fun, trendy, or totally you
If you want more or less, that’s fine too! This is just a starting point.
Wear your hair similar to how you normally would. If you have a unique location consider that too! For example, if we’re shooting at the beach or anywhere windy, think about pulling your hair back to avoid it blowing everywhere. We always have time to pause for a quick hair change or makeup touch-up! Most seniors keep their hair down, so doing something different is an easy way to make your photos stand out from everyone else’s.
We’ll be walking around a lot, so comfy shoes are key. Bring comfy shoes to walk around in (birks) then pop on the cute pair of statement shoes for your outfit!. For some shots (like close-ups) it doesn’t matter, but for full-body photos, the right shoes can make a big difference. Pick shoes you love and feel confident in!
